Friday 2nd April 1943

Nothing, either exciting or irritating, or interesting, occurred today. Many patients, including most of those with annoying personalities, have been discharged this week, and now this ward is half empty.

Last night I went for a stroll before turning in, with two other patients of the “A” ward – L/Cpl. Alderson and Cpl. Smith. I record their names as these are the first two Englishmen in “A” ward (except Paddy of course, whom I knew before) with whom I was in sympathy. They are quiet, refined, and do not grate on the nerves.
