Saturday 18th May 1935

Next week will also be a hard-up one. Indeed, I’m afraid ends will not quite meet! Unfortunate.

Maddison came after lunch. Strolled around St. Anne’s – infested with Girl Guides; dark blue uniforms, greenery. They had a big Rally in the Dingle. We watched from above. The Scout drum and fife band gave me goose-flesh!

Maddison had tea with me afterwards (in the pub scullery). Later we strolled around Thorpe, talking about work and the works. I like Mad Willy – Maddison – Maurice – Jones. So modest and gentle. Also young – young – like myself. Still a boy in fact!
