Tuesday 11th April 1939
Lois – boisterous wench! – awakened me by throwing handfuls of earth at my bedroom window, from the garden below. Eventually I staggered out of bed, lurched across the room and thrust a doubtless tousled head and bleary eyes out into the sunshine.
I had expected that the latest crisis would end all hopes of business. Nevertheless, my pessimism was not altogether justified for I took two orders. £4-10-0. Both new accounts! I bought sunglasses as further proof that summer had come. In mid afternoon, Angel and I went on the pier and sat in deck chairs, reading. When we came back to the garage, Slinky B had been greased (at my expense) and washed (at Lois’ expense) and looked magnificent!
