Friday 24th January 1941
About midday a party of us went for a bathe at the coast, about 2 miles off. Tobruk looked pretty, seen from the escarpment about 11/2 miles away. A little town of white buildings, some quite large, like factories or warehouses. Quite a peaceful scene in the noon sunshine, except for an Italian destroyer aground and smouldering in the harbour and two British mine-sweepers at work just beyond the boom.
A very, very cold swim in a picturesque little cove. Whilst dressing I discovered several lice in my clothes. Had a search then and eventually threw my vest away. Rather nauseating.
