Digging in the command post exchange today. In rocky soil, conveniently near the beach. That will probably be my station after all, not the forward exchange. But – there may be no Battle of the Bagbush Box (fascinating name!) for the latest news is that the Italians are withdrawing. We could still hear distant gunfire – presumably naval – this afternoon however.
i/c Battery Guard tonight. A “steady” job; no cleaning up or bullshit. “Nothing unusual has occurred since I mounted this post” intoned the NCO of the old guard as we took over. “Nothing,” I thought whimsically, “Except for a couple of raids with incendiary bombs!”
