“Night Must Fall!” Twice I’ve seen it as a film; tonight Lois and I saw it as a play at the Palace Theatre. (When we last went Lois introduced me to “The Gods”, a balcony high up near the roof. Tonight however, being more affluent, we had stalls.)
Wonderful character-study, splendid acting. We sat enthralled, our hands secretly clasped one within the other.
Quite apart form the play, what inevitability is signified by those three words – “Night must fall!” It cannot always be noontide. Although the sun shines all day long, the shadows must lengthen at last, stealing across the lawn towards the laughing young people… Oh! I’m seeing visions again!
