Reveille 5:30 a.m. as usual but signallers were up at 5 a.m. stacking kits for OC’s inspection and washing and shaving. Rather a rush, for we had to be at the ride by 6:15 a.m.
We trotted for the first time today. No one fell off – just a few caps were jolted off startled heads. Bump, bump came the saddles and one grimly tried to cling loosely, loosely but began to bump and couldn’t stick it much longer and then “Walk march” – thank goodness! Ah well! When we’ve learnt, it will be nice to go riding with some degree of skill, in civvie life – if we ever become civilians again and Oh! How I hope we will!
