Saturday 6th January 1940

The Battery atmosphere seemed even more unsettled on my return than it was when I went away. Several new officers: Mr Adams the nice but feeble signals officer had been replaced by Mr Turner, also nice but firm, and determined to instil the signallers with efficiency. The date of departure is not known but is obviously drawing closer. No weekend passes being granted now!

Reunion with Lucy was ecstatic but I thought, a little sadly, as we clung happily to each other, that this would only have it's sequel in another parting, soon.
