Sunday 25th February 1940

Yesterday was pretty lousy but today hasn’t been so bad – they have given us some breathing space. Reveille 6:30, voluntary church parade or rather service, and no kit inspection. I’ve been in the canteen (there’s a corporal’s mess now) nearly the whole day, in company with Stan Ling. We’ve been reading and writing and he licked me twice at chess.. Was able to buy stamps tonight, at last!

8:30p.m. I’ll have a snack of supper, then start getting ready for morning, then turn in. Those bloody Arabs did not bring us early morning tea again. Yesterday we awoke early and waited eagerly, in vain, until reveille. “I’ll cut their bollicks right off! Said Stan Ling bitterly.
