The salt water is awful! We only get one water-bottle full a day but it is fatal to drink that as it makes one even more thirsty. And the tea has a nauseating taste. Everyone was ill today, though whether this was due to the water or the bad food, I don't know.
It was a lovely, warm, windless day and I slept for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Had no lunch and awoke when mess tins were clattering at teatime. Felt better then. Plenty of aerial activity nowadays. We see dog fights and planes shot down by AA fire but we ourselves have not been bombed again. Good news – there were no raids over England or Germany on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
Sid Pond and I lay in bed talking about old days on the road - “Did you often “do” Burnham-on-Crouch?” ... “Prior the boat builder – a good old boy” ... “There was a builder at Stortford called Reeves”... “Never went there” ... “The Sunbeam Cafe was nice, at Chelmsford” ... It makes one sick with nostalgia!
