Monday 14th December 1942
I feel deadly. Got a beastly cold in the head. Much coughing and sneezing. To make matters no better, I was re-vaccinated today. So I should die within the next week or so.
Have just settled a wager with “Badgie” Hancox; stakes 300 Woodbines. He bets we shall move to Palestine or Syria before January 31st 1943. I bet that we shall not move to either of those countries before that date. The wager is in abeyance so long as we remain in Egypt, between Amirya and The Suez Canal; and the wager is not won until we have been stationed at least a week somewhere else. There are various clauses and conditions. The wager has now been solemn drawn up in the form of a document and signed and witnessed. Ken Poole, of 339 Battery holds the document.
It's the sort of wager I shall not mind losing! And if we go elsewhere, probably to the Bluey, it will be some consolation to receive 300 death tubes!
Today's headlines:
“EIGHTH ARMY ATTACKS AGAIN”
“ROMMEL IN RETREAT FROM EL AGHEILA”
