Sunday 6th December 1942

Leaving Bob sound asleep, Kerry, Jack and I rose early and went to Holy Communion at the English Cathedral.

Came back to the digs at about 8:30a.m. with the hell of an appetite. The streets of Cairo are perhaps at their best, early in the morning. There's plenty of debris about, naturally, but the air at least, is keen and fresh – and there are very few soldiers visible.

The four of us spent the forenoon at the Cairo Zoo (worth a visit for it's greenery) and went to the pictures in the evening. Bob didn't return to the Base until 11:45p.m.! The Base Depot makes it's soldiers ill-disciplined, by the very discipline it employs.
