Sunday 12th December 1943
Strict supervision here! One passes four orderlies on guard, on the way to the lavatories, and another watches you when you're there! Usually there are about half a dozen on duty simultaneously in the ward. Eyes everywhere!
This afternoon, well out at sea (we sailed about 11a.m.) they exercised us in the well deck. High rope barriers prevented us from flinging ourselves over the side. Mass orderlies watched us anxiously.
There has been no bullshit re kits or beds yet though; the food is good; and in any case we could stand anything for less than a fortnight, with England at the end of the journey!
