Thursday 29th April 1943

Five letters arrived! One from Taffy Rees, in 41(N) Hospital, Egypt; one from Meko, now back with his Bechuana Pioneer Coy. And three air mail letters from April!

This was a happy day altogether: At last I had an idea for a poem, and spent several hours working on it. And among new patients is one Corporal Lias, a Bournemouth man, educated and conversational, who likes walking. As soon as he had settled down, we went for a walk through the citrus groves. Thus, I also missed the annoyance of a cinema show, which was taking place in my ward that evening.
