Wednesday 7th March 1934

Still doubting myself, as I worked, worrying if I should succeed or not. My hands were filthy, filthy. I felt ashamed as I offered or accepted cigarettes, at TocH. They wished me to be Chairman for the evening, but I declined because I could not do it – yet. The theory that one should “shoot” at a job even if unfit, is not mine. Let the best man do the job and if that is yourself – good!

For explanation of the second front piece – “New Lures”, see the concluding paragraph for March 8th notes.
