Friday 30th September 1938
I read the paper in bed:-
“PEACE!”
“Ultimatum withdrawn at Munich”
“Agreement signed at 12:30 a.m. today”
“German troops may go in tomorrow; then occupation gradually”
“Duce Draws Frontier”
“It Is Peace”
Even the weather is different. Clear, cold and sunny. Did not feel much like work and my customers were not yet in the mood for buying. However, I collected some money and took one order, a new account.
Returned to Eastwoodbury (just past eleven, the curfew hour!) after having been to the pictures with Lois, and found a newspaper lying on the supper-table. “Hitler and Chamberlain sign:- "No More War Declaration” “Czechs Accept With Pathetic Brevity”
