Friday 22nd December 1939

No “snakes” with me today. Ron was sick orderly, Sid had just gone on leave and Stan was returning. A pitifully small “battery” today.

There was a route march – about seven miles. A crisp wintry morning with patches of fog. About forty of us, with a sergeant. A ripping march, we all felt warm and eventually the sun struggled through. We passed through Halam and paused at “The Plough” for refreshment. I was remembered there!
