Saturday 11th May 1940

The war tempo has quickened. (I read that phrase somewhere long ago, in another connection; it seems very graphic.) English troops have evacuated central Norway and there is no fighting in that country now except in the north. But – Chamberlain has resigned and Winston Churchill is now Prime Minister.

The bloody Nazis have declared war on Luxembourg, Holland, and Belgium. They have polished off Luxembourg – a tiny state - but there is fierce fighting in Belgium and Holland. British troops are being rushed in...

We have occupied Iceland and the Faroe Islands. This will be a world war again.
