I like Major Upton, the new OC. An old Yeomanry man, he seems the psychological student type of leader rather than the cold, hard driver like Major Ingledew. He allowed us to wear greatcoats and gloves on Church Parade. Whilst standing-easy waiting for 414 Battery to arrive, he let us smoke! Ingledews’ training was evident though when 414 Battery fell-in. Compared to ours, their parade discipline was shocking. And at the time of Epping Camp, it was 414 that was the smarter battery…
