I sometimes – in fact usually, nowadays – feel incompetent or outpaced. It's a fault of mine, in some spheres of life to feel unconfident. Therefore it rather cheered me up when George Hignall, having a little grumble, told me that B Troop Commander was complaining that Ron Dean was useless and that the Battery Captain had suggested that Ron and I be changed around. “I told 'im, “Not likely!”” growled George, “There's been to much o' that. Takin' good blokes out of HQ Troop and givin' us duds in exchange!”

Nevertheless, I still feel that Ron is an infinitely better Troop NCO than I should be!
