Monday 4th August 1941

The “show” is mysterious. All is tense still, yet there's little activity in this sector – in the western sector a post was recaptured by the Aussies. Yesterday morning there was what one can only call a ferocious air attack on the enemy's long-range gun area. High speed American bombers screamed over and a solid sheet of bombs washed down. Some bombs at least went into the Wadi Belgassem. The planes also did a bit of machine gunning. They accidently harassed Post Normy on the way back!

But they didn't get the gun. That was firing merrily again, in the evening! Ye gods! I feel sick! And it is so hot.
