Friday 2nd July 1943
John Store returned to this ward today, highly excited, happy and neurotic. Several times in each hour he places a hand on his heart and remains still as though listening. “Has it stopped?” I sometimes ask brutally. Whereupon he laughs. “No! Not yet. It nearly did the other day, all the same.”
MO's rounds: “How are you, Dawson – alright?” “Zift sir.” “What's that?” “I'm very depressed sir. Been here too long – all this neurotic atmosphere – gets me down.” “Yes. Don't worry. We'll be getting you away from here very soon now.”
