Saturday 25th September 1943

The casualties in ward 25 were, according to an orderly, - one nigger shot in the leg and one MO hit on the head with a brick. There were many minor injuries. The riot was heroically quelled by the Colonel (previously mentioned). When the gate was unlocked and Houghton-Kerr (TD MD) strode in among the struggling orderlies, doctors and niggers, his presence was enough to make all subdued. Well, this is certainly a more praiseworthy exploit than some of the others I have recorded about this Colonel.
I hear that blacks and whites are kept separate, in ward 25 – and quite right too.

12 furlongs yesterday; today the same.
