Monday 24th April 1933

Set out for Saxilby after breakfast. Walked to Burton Lane, where the bus overtook me. Went as far as Saxilby, then walked to the poultry farm, at Ingleby. Mr. Grey in the garden; a lovely big house. Ex, Labour candidate for Parliament. Pronounced views on politics.

Should study farming for a year – no pay. Alan, the elder son. Stayed for dinner. Twenty years of fighting for farmers and the land. A very nice family. What a happy life it must be!

Bachelordom ended now. Family returned.
