Mr. Slaughter in charge again. Had dinner at Hartop’s today. Nice change, but the Woolworth Cafeteria remains my favourite. Had pork, potatoes and cabbage, College pudding, jam roll, cup of tea. Cost 2/4d.
Trade slack; in the cellar we took it easy, finished early. Regan went home at 7.30 – influenza. Wooleron gave in his notice. MY transfer orders came through at 8.30 p.m. and Mr Slaughter told me to report to the Lincoln shop on Monday!
When closing time came I was outside, taking down the lamps, the end of my last days work in Leicester. Nine o’clock struck; the blinds fell. Casual farewells, Purloined as souvenir an old butter beater which had been thrown away. Am both happy and sad at leaving Leicester to go to Lincoln.
