Wednesday 12th June 1935

Last day of the rush! Went to TocH Regatta at Henley. By cycle and car. Bleak day, nasty wind. Tug-of-war in punts. We won; had all the luck. That wind made my jaw stiff! Canoe mop fights. Won first, lost the second. Dick and I in the unfriendly Thames. (“Will it be cold?” I wondered, as the canoe rolled over…)

Dick and I parted in the Park. Discussing the Pageant – and – other things. He did not do the usual thing last night. Which spoils the cynicism.

Bed, between 1 and 2 a.m. Good comrades, Dick and I. Wonder if a woman could come between us?
