First drill tonight with my new unit – the 54th EA Sigs. More rough and tough than the 193rd. Very smart at foot drill – they “form fours“ the RNVR way. We also studied wireless sets and had a morse reading exercise. I have a lot to learn… again…

Am not a “Private” or a “Gunner” but a “Signalman”. Signed on for four years, with a liability to overseas service if necessary. Have duly made the Oath and all that. Hardly an impressive ceremony! Glad I made the plunge once again, however.

Fred Butler today condemned the anti-aircraft units as “pappy”. He didn’t tell me his real opinion until I’d left!
