Monday 22nd May 1939

Thirteen calls in Southend – and no orders until 4:30 p.m. by which time I was beginning to lose hope. Two orders then and a turnover of £2-10-0.

Lois and I spent a lazy and amusing evening, sitting at strategical points (in Slinky B) on the front. We practised mass psychology on the people who, all-unknowing strolled past us.
