Sunday 21st May 1939
Lois and I joined the CHA Club for a ramble in Kent. We were late in leaving Oakdene but Slinky B, with speeds of 50 to 65 on open road and 35 to 40 in towns, nobly bore the brunt of our slackness. We reached Tilbury Station a few minutes before the rest arrived by train. 20 miles in 30 minutes.
Not a very healthy day. Sultry and oppressive for periods, then suddenly cold again. But dear, dear Kent! The rolling hills and valleys, the bluebells and buttercups, the happy people everywhere, in the sun!
