Sunday 23rd April 1939
Met Lois and the CHA Ramblers at Crays Hill at lunchtime. (I’d previously had breakfast in bed). Rain and mud. A field and footpath tramp, with tea at The Nags Head.
Afterwards a few of us walked back to Crays Hill. The rain had stopped. Lois usurped the leadership and took us through woods which were carpeted with bluebells, violets and primroses. Green freshness!
Evening: Lois and I went to the village cinema at Wickford and saw quite a thrilling flick. She missed the Eastwood bus but we dashed in its wake, overtook it at Shotgate and stopped it at Rawreth Corner.
