Tuesday 25th April 1939

Twelve calls in Colchester, Frinton, Clacton etc. Two orders, one a new account. How I dreaded the intermittent showers! The windscreen wipers hardly ever work now.

Ted Tutton came across in the evening for a few games of darts and some beer. He leaves this district at the weekend. Seeking a job elsewhere he will shake the dust of Essex from his feet forever. Unsentimental farewell.

“Well, I don’t suppose we’ll be meeting again,” he said.
“No; all the best!”
“Cheerio, keep off the beer!”
“And you! Not more than eight pints!”
“Cheerio!”
“Goodbye”
