Friday 8th September 1939

Battery Orderly Bombardier today. This entailed proper uniform not canvas jacket and slacks and being in the vicinity of the Orderly Room all day. Hellish hot. Bloody errands to be run. Got on well with the Orderly Sergeant (Yarrow) however. Decent feller.

Vaccination parade this morning. It didn’t seem particularly an ordeal, although several men fainted. Bloody hot though. When I came off duty, I had a cold bath and changed pants, vest and socks. Washed the sweat-soaked garments and hung them in the bathroom to dry.

Evening, drove out of town to a small roadside café and ate bacon, egg and chips with a cup of tea, in luxury.
