Monday 29th January 1940

Quintessence of misery this afternoon. “B” Troop, waiting for the issue of some trifling item of equipment, was made to double around a field through 12-18 inches of virgin snow and then to do squad PT drill – all this in great coats and with slung respirators. Gradually, the snow worked down into my boots, until I was soaked from the knees downwards.
