Monday 4th March 1940

Spinal meningitis in the Battery; second case since we left England. Rather a bugger – the whole regiment has been put in quarantine for ten days. We can’t go out of camp (in any case the towns are out of bounds just now) or to the cinema or to any neighbouring camp. Can’t even visit Stan in hospital now!

Tent windows and the leeward door to remain open at nights; men to sleep head to foot. What disturbs us in No.15 tent is that they may issue orders for only six men to occupy each tent. In that case three of us would be moved and a very happy family broken up.
