Tuesday 7th January 1941

6:30p.m. and here we are, six of us hanging precariously on the top of a stack of kit and equipment in the back of M1. Ready to go! Now we're off! The lads are in good spirits, pockets all a-bulge with cigarettes, matches, biscuits, bottles of cognac, tins of Iti bully beef and tinned tunny. We're wearing Iti caps, shirts, pullovers; some carry Iti water bottles. A gay lot of pirates, bound for the environs of Tobruk!
