Thursday 8th July 1943

Some of us went before a Medical Board this morning, after a postponement and several hours waiting. At last it was my turn, and I went in and stood before the Board like an Oliver Twist – but no one rapped out the command “Bow to the Board.”
On the contrary, they were quite gentle with me, quite humane, and only asked one or two unimportant questions. Nothing was said about what was to happen to us. Bill Lias, Smith, Key and myself have been before a Board now. Nobody knows why. I hope this means we get away from this crazy place, wherever we go.
