Early rising day. Reckon I spent most of the night wondering when the alarm would blare (but only in a subconscious way, I was asleep). Enjoyed the chocolate and tea at 3.30.

Early shift workers are allowed to smoke. We did smoking before dawn break! Not so cold as I had anticipated. Ate my sandwiches sitting on a stile in the Medes. Sunny morning. Finished at 1 o’clock. Lazily lounging in the sitting room after lunch, smoking – idly. Pleasant to relax. It is 9 o’clock now. Think I’ll go to bed. “Smoke – you’re getting to be a habit with me!”
