Gloomily read that my allowance from home is to be reduced by 5/- Shall protest, though it is not very hopeful. Real cheerful letter( I do not think!) which made me return to work in depressed mood after lunch.

Work made me feel much better however. The hours go quickly. Gum is finished for the time and next week we begin to make “lithos” (whatever that may be). This means early shift – 4a.m. to 1p.m. – besides the ordinary shift. I have volunteered, chiefly for the experience, so shall have two days of it, at least.
