Last minute cramming and then – the chemistry exam. (I’ve read through my “crammery” so often that I know it by heart.)
Worked fast and guessed that which I did not know. Looked down at my colleague, Duffy, who seemed very busy in the front row. He’d drawn a ship on his blotter pad.
Came away by 8 o’clock. Duffy, the casual, who’d done one question, also left. Tea and coffee in the canteen; glad it was over.
Came down from Waterloo with John and told him of the dark chapter. He said “aye” and “Naah” and looked tough. (No sentiment, no emotion… contrast!)
