Sunday 27th August 1939

Breakfast in bed. No definite news in the morning papers. Sunny day, still sultry.

Called at the drill hall. No news there, either, but our guns and equipment had been sent away – to Harwich.

Rio and I again left the crisis behind us and went across to Kent. Companionship is quite impossible with Rio! Even walking in the country she will hold my arm, snuggling close to my side and from time peeping up at me with the most naughty and mischievous eyes I ever have seen.

I firmly decided to be home early tonight. Nevertheless, It was 2:30a.m when I reached the digs!
