“Heavy Fighting as our Forces close with the Enemy”
Evening: Cockney Toomey and others, in the canteen, just now heard some startling news. Apparently the BBC announced baldly that Rome claimed that Mersa Matruh was now in German hands, though there was as yet no confirmation of this in London. Ye Gods!
8:30p.m. now, mosquito nets down. Toomey is in the kitchen, making a brew before we turn in.
