Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd May 1933

Westgate Committee meeting at night. Nagging parents; The Groups financial troubles. Later I asked Akel to let me become a Rover – not keen enough to be ASM. He would not agree. A long argument. Unsettled, still.

Vacancy at Harrowgate for a hotel porter (through Labour Exchange). I wished to apply but Mr. Shaw refused, as I had no experience.

Westgate meeting. A new ASM (in prospect) attended. Late twenties, glasses, dominating, salesman type. Non-Scout. A maze of factors and plans, both here and at home. Dazed. A full day tomorrow. Received further particulars from Bennett College.
