Monday 11th December 1933

Enjoyable day at work and not so cold. Imagine Monday being enjoyable! But I like this job. Because I am beginning to understand. Beginning to learn. That is why I am happy. This is wonderfully different from – those other places. There I was in a rut and knew it. Now I am on a broad road, seeing light ahead….

Several times during the day I smiled as happy memories came to me. Golden dreams of the glorious summer just past. And of it’s people too – colourful phantoms, smiling in the sun.
