Friday 1st December 1933
Have paid digs except one penny, which I must owe until Monday. Borrowed two pence from Harvey and bought some hot chips. Wrote a note to Rambling Secretary, at Ashford, to say I could not ramble this weekend. Reason: could not afford it. Shall deliver note by hand. No money for postage!
The jeering roar of the fires at work has settled down to one monotonous refrain now.
