Sunday 14th January 1934
Did not venture out of doors much today, except when I went for a stroll through Egham, with my pipe. Of course, the thing went out! Am trying to write a short story, called “The Rope” about a city clerk who finds a hempen rope and how it leads him to his destiny. So far I have written roughly of the finding of the rope, the dream, and how John prepared for a new kind of holiday. Having finished packing he has now gone to bed. So shall I soon! It is 10 o’clock. Am going to roll a cigarette, if I can. And listen to wireless music.
