Monday 27th March 1939

Effects of this latest crisis became noticeable today. One order only from Leigh, Southend and Westcliff. £1-15-0.

Rained hard all day. My windscreen wiper had to be repaired twice. Kennings made a temporary job this afternoon. The sod went wrong again in the evening. Drove cautiously to Chelmsford, through the sheets of rain, left the car at Sewell and King’s, called at the old digs and went to the pictures with Carter.

The wiper was repaired when we came out. It had stopped raining, anyhow.
